If (insert any number of publisher names here) says that to submit your novel it must be 70K words through 120K and a novella must be 20K to 40K and your finished work sits smack in the middle of those at 55K what would you do?
My original word count on my novel was 145 000 words. After a few rejection letters, I cut and edited it till it was (still is) 92 000 words, a bit more reasonable I guess.
If you are comfortable with that word count, don't change it. Just focus on the quality of the story. At least that is what I think.
What do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO?! (Great movie!)
ReplyDeleteGive it back to them and ask them what category you should submit your piece under.
K.
tell them it's YA - that takes all different word counts =)
ReplyDeletethen keep writing? or submitting elsewhere...
I think if the pitch is intresting enough they'll have a look at it.
ReplyDeleteEither beef that baby up or submit it anyway. They can only say no. Good luck.

K - It was a great movie. Would you like me to recite it to you now? ;)
ReplyDeleteTara - So can't pull YA off on this one. Way too much sex.
mooderino - Just concerned about the ol'...she couldn't even follow the submission directions...bad karma sticking to me if I send it.
T C - True enough. Thanks.
Murees - That's what I think too, but no one wants it.
Thanks for your time everyone!
Are there any characters or plotlines that could be further developed? I say expand it and make it a novel. Or just find another publisher. :-)
ReplyDeleteYep, I'd go with Liz. Expand, expand, expand :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
