Today we pay tribute with our REMAKES BLOGFEST!!!

***NOTE: Sorry...if I could ever figure out the difference between AM and PM this post would have been on time!!!***

Remakes Blogfest!

Hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh and Heather M. Gardner.

Remakes – most of them suck. Now and then, one comes along that is as good as, if not better, than the original. And after all of the bad ones we’ve endured, we want to know about some good ones.

On November 13, 2017, blog about your favorite remake: movie (or television show into movie and vice versa), song, or book – or all three! Post a YouTube video and links where we can find these treasures. Tell us why THIS remake doesn’t suck!

Sign up below. Post on November 13 and visit others on the list. Time to unearth those good remakes!

YES!

This is going to be awesome. I can't wait to see what you guys came up with because that means I get to hear about things that I didn't even know about yet!!

So...let's get started.

TV/Movies

Currently, my favorite remake is Lethal Weapon.

In 1987 this movie was a lot of fun. Suicidal cop meets one-foot-in-retirement cop and high jinks ensue. But, it was a cheesy eighties cop movie through and through.

Today...It's a TV show starring Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans. It just started its second season and it's SO much better than the movies.

I have a whole post about how much I love Mr. Crawford and Lethal Weapon with some very flattering images of Mr. Crawford as Riggs...HERE. :)

My favorite quote from Mr. Crawford in a recent interview..."I don’t think we ever want Riggs healthy. The more Riggs is a mess, the more fun it is."

Here is one of the second season promo's about the Riggs and Murtaugh Bromance...

Music

This one is tough. There are A LOT of really good remakes of songs.

This is one of my favorites. It's haunting and broody and the lead singers voice is tremendous.

Disturbed performs The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkle.

More awesome remakes:

Alien Ant Farm performs Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson

Five Finger Death Punch performs Bad Company by Bad Company

Shinedown performs Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Metallica performs Whiskey in the Jar based on Thin Lizzy's version of like every Irish folk singer ever

Bush performs Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones

The Fugees perform Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack

Soft Cell performs Tainted Love by Gloria Jones

Jimi Hendrix performs All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan

I'm sure there are a million more that I can't think of, but you get the idea! Thank you so much for visiting! I'm off to read your blogs!

  1. That's all right, I added something to my post last night and it threw it into draft mode, so it didn't go live at five am as planned. Oh well!
I haven't watched the new Lethal Weapon yet.
Alien Ant Farm! That is a great remake.
Thanks for co-hosting with me today!

  2. Hi,

Not familiar with Lethal Weapon. S&G and The Sound of Silence are superbly glorious, and so are most others on your list. Thank you for hosting, and for the recos.

  3. I keep meaning to try the "Lethal Weapon" television show as I've heard it's great and I loved that movie. Not enough hours in the day!

  4. I haven't heard Bush's Wild Horses, but I'm a sucker for The Sundays's cover of the song. Love Alien Ant Farm's Smooth Criminal, though.

I haven't seen the Lethal Weapon show yet. Couldn't fit it into my TV schedule. Hope to check it out some day.

  5. I don't recall a Lethal Weapon TV show, but I don't watch that many television shows on the main networks. I did like the movie however--my wife really enjoys action movies like this so we watch a lot of them.

You picked some good songs. There are some outstanding versions of "All Along the Watchtower" and "Wild Horses" that are quite different from others--probably because they are such great songs. Since I've been doing the Battle of the Bands posts for the past few years I've explored a lot of song remakes. Cover versions can be very interesting, though at times kind of bad and other times much better than the original. That's the beauty of music.

Thanks for co-hosting this event today. I couldn't resist this one.

  6. I guess I'll have to start a list of movie remakes to see. I'm finding a lot of great ones here today. My link didn't work on the Linky. I think it's because I screwed up the path with the switch to my new blog. www.cleemckenziebooks.com

  7. I still remember Clayne Crawford from that Mandy Moore movie, A Walk to Remember, though I haven't seen his new show. On the other hand, I cancelled my cable subscription when I moved and haven't gotten Netflix yet. I miss TV. I know I shouldn't, but I do. :(

  8. Yet I will always think of Soft Cell when I hear Tainted Love. It's like THE song of the early 80's now.

  9. Disturbed Sound of Silence version rocked. I need to buy and it download it so I can listen to it whenever I want.

  10. I had no idea that Lethal Weapon was made into a TV series. I liked the movie, maybe I'd like the TV series too.

  11. I've not seen the TV show. (So much to watch, so little time!) And I really liked Alien Ant Farm's version of Smooth Criminal. It was one of my son's favorites when he was little. He'd jump around dancing!

  12. I've enjoyed the new Lethal Weapon tv show too, surprisingly. Should be interesting to see if they really do get the proposed Lethal Weapon 5 going while the show is still on.

  13. We chose the same song! :)
I haven't tried the new Lethal Weapon - but you've got me interested in checking it out. Love the quote - Riggs most definitely has to be a mess!

  14. Oh yeah, I am hooked on the new Lethal Weapon and I did not think they could do it without ruining it, but they have a winner. Love it.

  15. I haven't seen the Lethal Weapon show yet its probably on Netflix. The trailer looks fast paced and its loaded full of explosions but hey thats showbiz. Great choice for the Remakes Blogfest, Heather

  20. I didn't realize they made Lethal Weapon into a TV series. Glad you like the remake so much.

  21. I've also been enjoying the Lethal Weapon TV series! It's fun and engaging! And Disturbed's version of The Sound of Silence is amazing!

  22. I do love the Lethal Weapon TV show, though I loved the movies, too, so can't say it's better. I've long adored Damon Wayans, but Crawford has joined his ranks. He's such an amazing Riggs. Damaged and charming at the same time. And the Disturbed version of Sounds of Silence is phenomenal.

  23. I DVR'ed Lethal Weapon. I've not watched it yet, but now I can't wait. I didn't realize this was the second season. I better see if I can find last season and get caught up.

  24. Yes!!! Riggs! They are nailing Texas crazy on that show! It and This is Us are my current favorite TV shows. Love this blogfest theme!

  25. There is talk of yet another Lethal Weapon movie. Looks like Mel Gibson is back making movies again. Wifey and I are seeing Step Brothers II tonight.

  26. Totally agree with you about the Disturbed remake. Thank you so much for introducing it to me. It's now one of my favourite songs.

I had no idea Lethal Weapon had been turned into a TV show! I'm so out of touch with TV.

  27. I've always liked Metallica's version of Whiskey in the Jar!
