So this is love...

I'd say you guys know me pretty well by now.

I'm not very ... howyousay ... girlie.

Yes, I'm a girl but I don't do pink, I don't do make-up and I certainly don't do shoes & handbags.

And yet, I write romance.

Yeah. I get that.

I was flippin' through channels on the TV Sunday and Cinderella was on. No, not one of those crappy remakes with the blonde actress of the week but, the original animated film.

I didn't get to watch the whole movie, especially since my seven year old was making gag noises non-stop, but I did get to see the very best scene.

Cinderella arrives at the ball in her fancy coach, her pretty new gown, and her glass slippers only to get swept off her feet by the handsome Prince.

So this is love, mmmm
So this is love
So this is what makes life divine...

My point?

I may be non-girly-girl but I still fell for this classic scene. The wonder, the newness, the excitement of meeting someone for the first time.

Then, the first touch, the first dance and, of course, the first time they kiss.

It's brilliant. Romance at its very best.

It's pretty easy to portray in film and television, visuals are always easy.

Getting those feelings across in words is much more difficult but a task that I am determined to achieve.

While I work on book two in the Maguire's Corner series I must remember that just because I'm well acquainted with these characters, cause they live in my warped head, the reader isn't and they want to feel every single 'first' moment of the relationship for themselves.

And not-so-girlie is all right. Tomboys enjoy love as well.

  2. That's awesome that your book is on the list! Congratulations!
I watched Cinderella on TV on Sunday, too! I was at urgent care with my three year old and it was a lovely distraction for her. :) (She's feeling much better now, too.)

  3. I haven't seen Cinderella in years, but that song will forever be etched in my mind.

I'm not a girly girl either, but I still love that first meeting.

  4. Congratulations on your book! Who can resist Cinderella? Let's face it, Disney did a great job with all those princesses!

  5. I'm neither girly nor a romantic (in fact we gag at romantic stuff in our house) and yet somehow a romance became the center of all five of my fiction books. No idea how that happened.

  8. I'm not very girly either, but write contemporary romance too. Go figure. Most of my heroines don't tend to be all that girly either. Hmmm. I'm seeing a trend. lol.

  9. doesn't matter if you're girly or not. You can still be a hopeless romantic in your own way. :) totally love that postcard, btw.
