#IWSG - Insecure Writer's Support Group July Post!

And now, a word from our sponsor...

...Alex J. Cavanaugh.

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time. Be sure to link to this page and display the badge in your post.

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

Our Twitter hashtag is #IWSG

My awesome co-hosts for the July 2 posting of the IWSG will be Krista McLaughlin, Kim Van Sickler, Heather Gardner, and Hart Johnson!

Please help us spread the word about the Insecure Writer’s Support Group Website!!!

***

I'm so honored to be a co-host this month for Alex and the IWSG!

I'm going to be wandering around this afternoon stalking some of you in a totally non-creepy way!

But, first...

So, there's that.

:)

We have lots of excuses and reasons and justifications.

Bottom line...we should be writing.

Outlining.
Editing.
Writing.
Jotting.
Noting.
Penciling.

It all counts.

Don't let anything hold you back from getting the words onto the page.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

So...I'll see some of you later.

Yes, that was fair warning.

:\

  2. I'm writing again, honest!! Husband much better, so no excuses :0)

  3. Yes, I should be writing. I should ALSO be running outdoors to move the portable sheep pen because it's in the way and the hay guys are coming today. I should ALSO be fixing some crap in the kitchen, and, maybe, fix some breakfast while I'm at it. And maybe I should be panicking about money a little more.... But I really should be writing.

  4. Yesterday I accepted an invite to a Critique Group of very talented writers. Almost two years ago this same group had an opening, but I passed, feeling I was not up to their level. Somehow they saw fit to ask me again...so I accepted. Now I must get to writing so I am ready. Thanks for the inspiration!

  5. man, that is me this week. Doing everything BUT writing. I'm going on vacation tomorrow so i am checked out, which is such a crappy excuse but there it is

  6. Thanks for hosting this month, Heather.

Loved the Darth Vader warning...until I saw Captain Mal. He can sit on top of my desk and warn me all the time. :)

  7. Thanks for hosting this month. Now I gotta go. I should be writing.

  18. Straightforward! No beating about the bush, hey?
Do the comments I make on today's IWSG posts count as writing? Yes? No? Oh well, I tried. lol

Thanks for co-hosting the IWSG this month!

  20. Congrats on co-hosting this month. You've definitely got the right attitude for the job! :-)

  21. LOL. I'll take the warning. I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze in some writing without the world exploding in our small rental, 3 kids constantly demanding attention or destroying things. *sigh* There are definitely seasons when it's easier, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  22. yup, that's the best advice you can ever give :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks for co-hosting Heather, and for your awesome motivational post!! Nothin' to it but to do it. That's what I say. ;)

  24. *cringe* I know. I know I should be writing. But, but...
...emailing, blogging, tearing down a basement wall that is collapsing, folding clothes...IWSG.

  29. I should be editing. But am I? Of course not! Well, at least I'm looking at blogs instead of watching TV. Thanks for co-hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks for the motivation, the comedy, and some creepiness. Oh and thanks for co-hosting too!

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's too easy to get sucked into doing something else instead of writing. Hopefully, I'll soon be back to my WIP and final edits of the third book I'm releasing this year.

    ReplyDelete
  32. LOL These are great!

But if I'm writing/penciling/noting/etc . . . how am I supposed to go around commenting? lol (sorry, had to) then again commenting is writing, RIGHT? :D

    Thank you for co-hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah, I'm kinda right there with you. Need to start my new project, but way to much to do.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks for co-hosting. Now I feel guilty. I should be writing. Does typing comments on IWSG posts count?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I really like seeing all of the ISWG badges pop up in my blog reader! Way to go!!!! (and grow)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Great proding and thanks for cohosting.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I need to get writing, as you've reminded us. ;) Thanks for co-hosting.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Okay, I'll go write. :)

    Thanks for co-hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I bet I'm not the only one who did Darth Vader voice when reading "I find your lack of writing disturbing." HA! Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Great words of wisdom Heather! Although I didn't have the greatest June, I still did as much writing as I could.

As usual, thanks for your impressive co-hosting skills! Eva

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wonderful! I love those images! I have one of Sherlock pointing a gun at John's head and saying "Start writing or John gets it". It motivates me!

Thanks for co-hosting! I'm having so much fun doing this!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can't ignore those guys when they tell me to do something. I must wipe the drool off my chin and write! :) Thanks for co-hosting today.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would love to be writing. Can I have one of those time-turners like Hermione? Please?? Thanks for co-hosting today!

    ReplyDelete
  44. OMG those are so funny!!!!!!

    Thanks for co-hosting :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thanks for co-hosting IWSG for July, Heather.
Also, thanks for the fun pictures and fair warning. Lucky for me, I have been writing, doing my own personal NaNoWriMo for June/July and am ahead of schedule.
    Happy 4th of July

  46. Okay, some of those picture are going to go into my motivation pile.... just what they'll motivate me to do however is up in the air. (suddenly seeing a Firefly marathon in my future....) :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks for all the great comments!

    NOW GO WRITE!!!

    Heather

    ReplyDelete
  48. I enjoyed those admonishments.

In my mind, when I hear someone telling me to write, it's school teachers from the past, some of whom were nuns, telling me I had to write a book someday and not waste my 'gifts').

That's scarier than Darth Vader any day!

    ReplyDelete
  49. It's easy to get distracted, but ultimately that's what it all boils down to!

    ReplyDelete
  50. You're right I should be working and I have no proper excuse not to ... unless it being sunny counts?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Now that I've read this Heather, I'll get back to editing my manuscript.

    ReplyDelete
  52. All right, I understand! I should be writing. Lol

Love those pictures. I think I look at one often on my phone just to remind me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. First of all - your pics just made my day, so thank you for that. Second, thanks for the comment on my post. I LOVE the 'Keep moving forward' because 1.) Disney said it, 2.) it's the theme of Meet the Robinsons and I LOVE that movie and 3.) It's so true. Rock on, sister writer.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The irony? I was so busy blogging yesterday, I didn't get to my WIP AT ALL. Today is dedicated writing day. Hope you enjoyed your co-hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Every time I land on your blog I love the scrapbooking quote :) And the images, perfect for me this month, as I blogged about procrasinating, and here I am blogging instead of CampNaNoWriMoing lol!

  58. Very good point. Even if I get downhearted (I am) and think nothing is ever going to go right or get easier (I do), I still try to get a little done every day and hope that eventually I'll actually make it to the end...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Can I eat dinner first? *gives puppy dog eyes*

    ReplyDelete
  60. Definitely sticking those first two to my laptop for the weekend ;)

    ReplyDelete
  61. You cut right to the chase, Heather! A funny and spot on post! Thanks for do-hosting this month!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Message received, loud and clear. (Especially when Mal is doing the talking *squee*)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Nice! If a bunch of hot men (and Darth) want me to write, how can I turn them down?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yep, I'll go back to writing when I've visited all my website and done as much marketing as I can do. Perhaps it might be more productive if I scheduled marketing and communication to one day a week instead of trying to do it every day. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Heather! I miss you!
Also those pictures were great. I think I should print the one of Mal and post it somewhere that I will see it every day. On the bathroom mirror? No showers! only writing! ..not sure the husband would go for that for long....
    Happy weekend :)

  66. I am writing (love the pic of Nathan doing his Firefly thing) and realized, as I was editing and writing a sequel to a work that is being reviewed by a publisher now, it's over 110K words. Any one have any thoughts on how many words a novel should be? The first one is about 77K. So, I'm wondering if I should split book 2 into three parts. Ugh...the math is killing me ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. My biggest excuse for not writing is "catching up on social media and commenting on other blogs."

Which is what I'm doing right now... But, in my defense, I *do* have a timer set. When it goes off, it's back to the WIP!

Thanks for dropping by my blog earlier. :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. So instead of playing blog catch- up, I should be writing? hehe.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Love all the pictures especially good ole Darth:) If one can find a way to excuse oneself from doing something we should be doing, we will always find a way.
