Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and
concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been
through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven
for insecure writers of all kinds!
November 2 Question: What is your favorite aspect of being a writer?
Alex J. Cavanaugh's awesome co-hosts for the November 2 posting of the IWSG will be Joylene Novell Butler,
Jen Chandler, Mary Aalgaard, Lisa Buie Collard, Tamara Narayan, Tyrean Martinson, and Christine Rains!
Lesley Gore " You Don't Own Me"
I laugh each time I hear that song in the car commercial lately. Except, I equate it to writing, not to boys.
You don't own me
I'm not just one of your many toys
You don't own me
Don't say I can't go with other ... words
Don't tell me what to do!
And, don't tell me what to say!
This is exactly what happened last time I tried to do NaNoWriMo [National Novel Writing Month].
Apparently, I don't take orders well from anyone, including myself.
Don't tell me how many words to write in a day, Heather. I'm not gonna do it. Not for you, not for anyone!
Yeah. That doesn't help.
So, to all of you that have discipline, and have signed-up and will do your very best to write a some or all of a novel in one month ...
Here are some funnies to keep you going!
Aw, well, if Captain American *and* Iron Man are telling me to write, then I guess I better go write.
ReplyDeleteI don't take orders well, either. Thanks for helping me start my day with a good laugh!
ReplyDeleteLove the NaNo inspiration :-) My favorite is the creature built out of binder clips.
ReplyDeleteThat little clip monster is awesome! Makes me want to build one.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the requirement to write so many words. But even if you don't do that many it's still more words written. I love the clip monster too!
ReplyDeleteI'm not participating in NaNo , partly because of "having" to write a certain number of words. I also prefer to write my way.
ReplyDeleteHaha. The whole thing in November! Haha. Love that one. Seriously, are you sure writing doesn't own us? Doesn't feel that way at this end. LOL. Happy IWSG Day, Heather. Thanks for the chuckles.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I don't NaNo either. If I do, I spent the whole next year trying to clean up the mess that I spattered all over the page. No fun.
ReplyDeleteWhile I am fan of Nano, I detest being told what to do. Goals I like, but that wordcount graph is intimidating!
ReplyDeleteGo, Heather!
ReplyDeleteI'm only doing NaNo this month in a loose sense. I'm not writing a story, but being a rebel and use it to get some editing done. I didn't do any yesterday so I'm off to a great start! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm really sad not to be doing NaNo this year. But the 30 pages of academic writing I need to do this month have to take precedence. Oh well. Have fun everyone!
ReplyDeleteAll perfect images to hang above your computer. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'm writing about - LOL That's me.
ReplyDeleteI'm not doing NaNo either. I'll attempt the November NaNo one of these years (I keep on telling myself this...)
ReplyDeleteHappy IWSG Day!
Haha! These are so great! I never can promise word count either. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! You gotta love it. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnna from elements of emaginette
Add me to the list of folks who can't take orders. I'll write what and when I want to, darn it!
ReplyDeleteYou always make me laugh. And what does that one mean about spider solitaire? I own that game! And some days I don't even play it.
ReplyDeleteSome people really get invigorated with NaNo. I always have too many other things to do in Nov. Love that song. Makes me think of First Wives Club.
ReplyDeleteI did NaNo three years, and from there I was able to take that discipline and work it into my own routine. I've done pretty good with it n the decade since I last participated.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, Heather. This is my first time here. The pictures are great! My fav is the paper clip monster. He attacks my writing daily. I also like the song Your Don't Own Me. Unfortunately, my words seem to have a good hand on me. I've joined your blog. I'm meeting and connecting with so many wonderful new writers in the IWSG. I hope to see you around the blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteYes! Those are hilarious. I won't be joining Nano either. I don't need any extra pressure. My guilt complex is taking care of that just fine.
ReplyDeleteThe only orders I take are the ones from myself. Unfortunately, they are way too ambitious and extreme most of the time. Setting achievable goals is the trick, I guess. Happy non-NaNo writing!
ReplyDeleteI love that song and I adore it in the First Wives Club! Wishing you lots of fun with NaNo!!
