If you don't do anything else today read this article: How to become an author, in 5 incredibly difficult steps, by Robert Brockway. It's fucking hilarious. My favorite quote: "Editing is just like writing, except hateful, and in reverse."
Lesson I learned on Tuesday.
Don't leave your notebook in your truck when you bring it to the garage to have your brakes fixed. When inspiration strikes and your notebook is 5 feet in the air on a lift you have to paw through old magazines and newspapers in the waiting room to find blank paper to write on.
So sad.
I was so surprised to be writing that I didn't mind scribbling on scraps of paper in three different directions.
I am a little frightened to transfer what I wrote into the computer. My rarely used handwriting is like deciphering hieroglyphics.
So be it.
I'll take it.
That's about all I have today. I'm in the middle of the fireman's carnival this week and it's raining and raining and we are so soggy and getting a little moldy. No fun this year.
If you are having sun...please enjoy it for me.
I wish we could trade some of our sunshine for some of your rain. :-) That editing quote is perfect, simply perfect.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I have sun... but won't see it. I'll spend my weekend writing.
ReplyDeleteits because you disappointed me w/ your tomahawk chop (jk) i forgive you, let there be sun!
ReplyDeletewrite your notes here, i will decipher them. i love puzzles and cryptograms =)
I just read the article it had me almost crying! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI often find in my absent mindedness I forget my notebook and I am scribbling on whatever I can find.
Even knowing how unglamorous the whole thing is; even knowing that I'd be better compensated for my time if I spent my nights underneath the bleachers at a local football game with my mouth open, trying to swallow errant nickels." Couldn't have said it better myself.
ReplyDeleteLiz - I would gladly trade at this point. Need to dry out! Thank you and I hope you have a good weekend too!
ReplyDeleteJeff - Good luck and happy writing.
Tara - I know. Out of all the team rivalries! You and I shall prevail.
kmckendry- it was pretty funny. Yeah, I'll have to make sure I take it with me more often.
Marc - He was very funny and very right. I guess we don't go into this for the loads of money after all.
Thanks for stopping in everyone!

They wouldn't lower your truck so you could get your notebook? Bummer.
ReplyDeleteAlex - I know! And he is my good friend too. Oh well. Managed.
ReplyDeleteI loved the editing part of that article.
ReplyDeleteIt is frustrating when you can't write an idea down because you don't have your notebook. Good thing I looked in an old handbag the other day, realizing I didn't have it when I switched to my summer bag.
Loved the editing part too. Found your site today and am excited to read more.
ReplyDeleteTheresa - Yep. I hope to be more diligent grabbing my book out of my bag from now on! ;)
ReplyDeleteV. - Thank you! I appreciate that! Welcome!
I loved that article! I was almost in tears.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!
I am off to read the article.
ReplyDeleteIt's raining again here too.
Jennifer - It was really funny but I'm not sure he meant it to be! Thanks for stopping by.
