What's the matter Colonel Sanders? Chicken?

I completely chickened out.

For so long I was like a blogfest/contest whore and yesterday I chickened out.

So sad.

I read about this contest on Gabriela Lessa's blog.

All you had to do was post a love scene from a finished manuscript yesterday.

I quickly opened my story and tried to decide what to send.

But, almost as quickly, I closed it.

I currently lack the confidence to enter anything.

I did check out a few of the contest entries today and they were pretty good so if you need a little love pick-me-up go check them out.

At the husband's softball game yesterday I pulled out my notebook and hashed out a few things I would like to do with my werewolf story.

That's a first for me.

I asked myself a few important questions about the story and the characters and then tried to answer them.

It was ... interesting.

We shall see where it takes me.

  1. I don't think you should be too disheartened, love scenes are never easy to feel confident about. Is it too corny? Is it believable? Should I have included the eggbeater and the blindfold?

  2. I still won't let anyone read my love scenes. But I think you would have done a good job. Don't be too worried about pulling out of the blogfest. It could happen to anyone. Cheer up. Good luck with the werewolf story.

  3. Mood - Nice. Very nice. How did you know about the eggbeater?

Murees - Bad choice of words...pulling out! Ha! Funny.

Actually it didn't have to be a sex scene just a love scene. I suppose her blog description explained it better than mine did.

    Thanks for the comments!

  4. If it helps, I've never entered any writing contest or blogfest!

  5. Writing is meant to be read... so get it out there, it’s the only way to grow, and know what you're doing is good (or not good) there comes a time to let go of self-doubt--or the whole "I’m just not ready" mentality.

Just do it, you'll be grateful you did.

I share anywhere someone will listen. I’ve been told my story rock and I’m on my way to being published… and on the reverse side, I’ve been told this sucks, you need to take some classes, or read more “how to” books.

But either way I am better off sharing and growing, than I am wondering if it will ever be good enough.

  7. You totally should have posted that, I would loved to have read it... The chapters you posted form STRS, those chapters were great, lots of tension, there is a really good scene you wrote.

Good luck with the werewolf story.

    Jess.

  8. Alex - Yes. Yes it does!

Jeff - I agree, to a point. It is meant to be read but I'm not always ready to hear the feedback. Good or bad. And yes, I've been told to read lots of 'how to' books. ;)

Tara - I'm working on the Caine story. It is paranormal romance-y. We shall see. I'm about 10,000 words in but I'm not sure where I am going with it yet.
How can I get discouraged when I have you guys?

Jessica - You so rock! Maybe I will post the scene I was looking at without the contest.
    Thank you!

    Thanks guys!

  9. You're only human. I can totally relate to the chickening out part of blogfests and contests. I say, take a break. Focus on finishing your story first. Focus on what you can control.

P.S. I'm totally hooked on TEEN WOLF now. I watched the second episode last night. Third is DVRed for 2night. It's gotten better.

  10. Liz - Ah yes. Control. I used to have that. Must get that back!

OK, I guess I'm going to have to check out Teen Wolf. I think I can watch it on MTV online. I'm only a few eps from finishing Supernatural Season 6 and soon I'll be freaking out without something freaky to watch! Thanks for the updates!
