#IWSG - Blood, Boobs & Carnage!

Blood, Boobs & Carnage!

I love that title!

I stole it.

From Alex J. Cavanaugh.

Who, by the way, is only 7 new friends away from his Epic 2000 Follower Giveaway!

Today is the March edition of the Insecure Writer's Support Group!

Alex came up with this, too. He's pretty freakin' awesome.

If you want to join the group, or find the webpage and Facebook page (718 members strong), check the link above and get involved with this great group of people.

So, what to write about today.

Blood, Boobs & Carnage!!!

It's just so catchy.

Alex was referring to the movies when he coined that phrase. I prefer those types of movies myself. We usually call them Hack & Slash movies from my D&D days.

I'm not big on thinkin' movies. I don't read a lot of thinkin' books either. But throw in some Blood, Boobs & Carnage and I'm right there!

Okay. This post is going nowhere fast.

Insecure? Yeah, that's me.

For reasons that shall remain unspoken right now, I need to find a new publisher for my second book in my MC series.

Starting over is one huge, hairy, scary proposition. I honestly didn't think I'd have to pimp myself out again so soon but it's got to be done if I want MC2 to get published.

And, I really do.

So, I'm back on the hunt, working on a query letter and researching submission guidelines.

I'm not happy.

But, I'm determined.

Are you feeling insecure?
Do you watch movies with Blood, Boobs & Carnage?

  1. I'm sorry you have to find a new publisher! You did it once, you can do it again.
And that title just made my day! I was rolling with laughter when it popped up in my reader. Thanks, Heather. You rock!
Now, bring on the blood, boobs, and carnage!

  2. So sorry you need a new publisher, but that means the new one will be much better than the other one. Someday you'll look back at this time and be proud that you were determined. You'll be happy that you didn't give up on your dream.

  3. Oh, man--I've avoided jumping back in the 'reshopping' realm, but I need to, too, so I totally hear you. I wish you the best of luck!

As for the Boobs, Blood and Carnage... I guess my love of Game of Thrones supports that, though in reality, it is all the sneaking and plotting that really wins me over.

  4. Good luck with finding a new publisher! I'll be querying this year too. It's terrifying! Maybe if we just write Blood, Boobs & Carnage, publishers will scoop us up!

  5. As the mom of 3 young men, I see more blood, boobs and carnage than I wish. Good luck on your publisher search. May the right door open. Happy IWSG day!

  6. LOL! I'm not one for the deep thought movies either. Good luck finding another publisher.

  7. I *do* watch a lot of those movies, and it is increasingly frustrating to see the boobs part paired with violence for entertainment. I'm all for love scenes, even somewhat graphic if it fits the narrative. Rape scenes as entertainment I take issue with--what is useful for the story and what is just a cheap, easy way to up the stakes? Exploiting women for story narrative is so common I think for years I just accepted it. When you turn that light on in your head and start noticing, it can really get you down. But it's important to notice those things. Some of it is innocent fun sure, but the sheer quantity of woman sexualized in violent narrative is a trend that is disturbing and requires us smart folks to pay attention to.

My husband finally understood this after I explained how grateful I was that a movie we watched had a female character with a plot that didn't involve her stripping. In action movies, sometimes that is a rarity to see a female character that has her own plot and who isn't over sexualized.

I am fan of Game of Thrones, though they are one of the worst offenders at exploiting women. A lot of the highly sexualized scenes aren't even in the books. At least Khaleesi is awesome.

  8. I'm new to IWSG just checking the blogs, and saying Hi. I'm new to writing to publish. I am working my first novel, so I have not even gotten around to really pimping myself out. It sounds scary, so I am wishing the best of luck, and very little hassle. Best Wishes

  9. That sucks, Heather. I'm sorry. But I am also totally sure that you will find a new publisher, and all will be well again. :) Good luck!

  10. Putting yourself out there never gets any easier! I'm in the query trenches for the fourth time, and I'm constantly worrying about what to do with all my writing projects...it's nerve-racking! Best of luck finding a new publisher! :)

  11. Blood, boobs and carnage, how hilarious is that?! Yes, I do love a good thriller or quirky detective thing. Good luck with your querying.

  12. That really stinks, but I've been through that TWICE. It's rough, but I think I came out stronger.

But lately, I've been VERY insecure. Not a whole lot of positivity coming out of me today.

  13. I'm so sorry, Heather. Having gone through the query process once was enough and having to do it again...I know you will get a second publisher fast, because you have one kick-ass first book. Just don't give up and feel dejected. You're amazing, just don't forget it.

  14. I wish I could say sorry about having to find a new publisher, but I have no idea what's on the horizon. Probably something great with an even better publisher.

Not much into the boobs, but I'll take the blood and carnage.

  15. Best of luck in finding a new publisher. You can do it.

I'm not into Blood and Boobs and Carnage. Humor and romance and fantasy are more my style. :)

  16. I adore adventure and horror movies and books. I hate the thinkin' ones. Don't get me started on the "classics." Why don't you self-pub the new book? I'm dying to write a sequel, but it's not business savvy (according to my agent). But in a few years my 1st book rights will revert to me, and then I'm writing a sequel or two!!

  17. No fun having to "pimp" yourself out to publishers. I'm in the query trenches now so I know how awful it can be!! *hugs*

My husband is more of a blood and carnage (minus the boobs) person, more so than I am. I'm a sap. I like my romantic comedies. Although I do enjoy a good superhero movie, especially if Henry Cavill is the lead!! :)

  23. That sucks about having to find another publisher. No fun at all.

  24. Yes in answer to both questions. I am most fearfully feeling insecure right now. I'm giving myself three days to get over it. I also like B, B and C movies, some of the time. I like lots of different kinds, mysteries are high on my list. Love that you stole Alex's title! Go girl! Came over from IWSG!
