Let's get to work & The “Don’t You Hate Book Blog Tours?” Book Tour!

Good morning. I hope you had a great weekend.

My brain has been so busy lately trying to remember all the things I need to start and the things I need to finish and the things I need to get ready for and the things I need to delegate and ... and ... and ... that I haven't been very creative.

Must. Remedy. That. Now.

I've really had to work on this the last few weeks, too.

We shall prevail.

I'm over on the Warwick Valley Romance Authors blog today talking about my writing rituals/habits! I really only have one. Can you guess what it is?

And now, for my special guest!

LOVE AMONG THE CLOUDS

Roland Yeomans, here: Reader, Writer, Dreamer
Ssssh!  This isn’t a blog book tour post.  It is a post of my “Don’t You Hate Book Blog Tours?” Book Tour.
What’s the difference?  My posts are entertaining!
I’ve talked of sex in my other posts.  But THE NOT-SO-INNOCENTS ABROAD is really about romance, love, and the difficulties we run into when we align ourselves with another’s heart.
It is about two lonely souls striving to be twin pillars holding up the house of their love without destroying one another.

Meilori Shinseen is an empress of a People from another layer of reality whose air it is death for humans to breathe.
Her otherworldly face is beyond beautiful and is almost human.  And it is that almost that unnerves most who see her.
Captain Samuel McCord, Texas Ranger, through dark acts of kindness has had his blood mixed with that of the Angel of Death and with that of Mother Nature herself.  To say that strange fires flow through his veins is an understatement.
The two are on their honeymoon cruise in Meilori’s Air-Steamship, Xanadu, which was Samuel’s gift to her.  Both have made enemies that circle them on board the vessel.
But I am not here to talk enemies but to focus on their desperate struggles to discover how to make such a marriage of human and alien work, how to accept that they will not always agree, and how to make that disagreeing strengthen not destroy their marriage.
Meilori must seem impervious, all-knowing, and an All-Mother to her People.  No one being can be all that.  Samuel sees that and sees the lost, lonely woman beneath the mantle of so much responsibility.
Samuel believes she is trying to be better than the monster she has often been.  But Meilori is merely holding herself back in an anguished attempt to hold onto the man she loves for just a few more weeks before her nature asserts itself … and she loses him and her soul.
Little does she realize that she is truly sculpting herself into that soul Samuel believes she can be with each act of restraint done out of love.
Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) softens her even more.  Her race cannot have children here on Earth.  But with Sammy, Meilori has found the son she thought she could never have.
Yet, when she believes no one is looking, Meilori sobs silently, for she knows that one day she may be called upon to sacrifice the noble, naïve man she loves more than life … but not more than her People.

  1. She's between a rock and a hard place all right. But most marriages come with a bit of a struggle, and with love, they work.

  2. Hi Heather and Roland - it's interesting how perceptive Samuel McCord is .. and he's wise travelling on her Xanadu, even if he did give it to her ... love is true ... and they can love for now ... cheers Hilary

  3. I would love to be creative with my free time, but then I remember I haven't started my A to Z posts. Well, I guess that's sort of creative...

  5. Hey, Heather, I know all about that not getting stuff finished because so much is going on. Trying to straddle stuff though.

I like that title from Roland. :)

  6. I love the quote because that is something I need to apply to my life. I am so tired right now at the end of the day and I want to have more time for writing. I must reorganize and be careful what I am committing to so that I have more time. Thanks and wishing you lots of luck in that department too!

  7. Sorry I'm so late stopping by, Heather and Roland. I love Heather's quote (I'm so tired all the time these days!), and I'm touched by the wisdom in Roland's description of Meilori. Of course a man as good as Mark Twain would soften her heart!

    1. Sorry to have missed your comment for so long, Helena. Yes, Meilori is a haunted, tragic woman. It makes for a good tale though. How could Mark Twain not soften her heart, right? :-)
