#IWSG - It's June. Do you know where your writing is? & Tour stop for The Warrior Prophet!

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Alex's awesome co-hosts for the June 1 posting of the IWSG will be Murees Dupe, Alexia Chamberlynn, Chemist Ken, and Me!

You are right!

I have it bad.

I've cleaned the kitchen and the entire refrigerator. I've sorted and filed in the office. I've even mowed the lawn in a timely manner.

This is not normal for me.

But, we take the bad with the good and vice versa.

Brain needs a break? I'll give it a break.

At least the family is getting fed and the laundry isn't piling up.

Make sure to visit the LIST to find other Insecure Writers!

A Canadian-born author, Lisa Voisin spent her childhood daydreaming and making up stories, but it was her love of reading and writing in her teens that drew her to Young Adult fiction.

Lisa is also a technical writer, a meditation teacher with the Training in Power Academy, and the leader of the Young Writer’s Club, a local writing group for teens in her home town. A self-proclaimed coffee lover, she can usually be found writing in a local café. When she's not writing, you'll find her meditating or hiking in the mountains to counteract the side effects of drinking too much caffeine!

Though she’s lived in several cities across Canada, she currently lives in Vancouver, B.C. with her fiancé and their two cats.

More about Lisa can be found on her web site: http://www.lisavoisin.com or blog: http://lisavoisin.wordpress.com

  2. LOL. I may have spent most of my day off yesterday cleaning instead of writing...

  3. I love this post and I laughed out loud. My favorite was the AWOL imaginary friends. Why is it, household chores is the compliment to writing? Thank you for being an IWSG co-host. I'm off now to visit more on the list. Cheers.

  4. Hahaaa...thank you for the morning chuckle!!! I walk and clean when I have writer's block. But it amazes me when something, an idea, pops into my head. And that will surely happen to you.

    Thank you for co-hosting, Heather.

  5. Now next time you are in a writing groove, you can remind your family how much work you've already done on everything else!
    Thanks for co-hosting today.

    ReplyDelete
  6. They say the best way to get past writer's block is to keep pushing at it...write whatever silly thing will come from your fingers! Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Give that brain a break! I think the best ideas can come when we're not trying to push it too hard. It's funny how appealing housework can seem at times.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Love your cartoons, Heather. When I'm blocked, I read. Forget house cleaning. Thanks for co-hosting this month. Good luck with the writing.

  9. Congrats to Lisa!

Woman, free your mind eh? Try writing a single sentence or paragraph, a poem or kids story. Anything. Something with no pressure. Who cares if it's not your work with a deadline. Just go with it. You'll find the rest comes within a short time.

  10. Those cartoons are hitting home, especially the one about watching cat videos. Not that I do that! Heck, no. There are so many other things that distract me. I have real cats to watch. And make videos of. Where's my camera?

    ReplyDelete
  11. All those writer's block cartoons cracked me up! Thanks for sharing them. And I bet your brain was working subconsciously the whole time you were doing all that cleaning. Hang in there!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sorry about the writer's block. Thank you for the cartoons, though. I'm still chuckling, particularly at the last one. Sometimes a break is just what we need to get the creative juices flowing again. Good luck! Thanks for co-hosting IWSG!

  13. Congrats to Lisa. LOL on the writer's block. I clean and bake when I'm stuck. You made me smile today before I go out and mow the grass.

    ReplyDelete
  14. No, not the cat videos! LOL I get so distracted in the evening with cat photos on Pinterest.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I find it so easy to get distracted. :) Unfortunately, I've got the opposite of writer's block. I've got so much I want to get done that I can't figure out what to prioritize! *sigh* Best of luck with your block!

  16. Congratulations, Lisa! Writer's Block is awful. I had one that lasted months, almost a year. Scared me bad. But it's gone, sort of. Maybe we need to vanish writer's block to a spa where they'll massage all our insecurities away!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oops, forgot to say, "Thanks for co-hosting, Heather!"

    ReplyDelete
  18. I've been having a bad case of writer's block lately too. But sometimes our brains DO need a break! And then we can come back to our writing feeling refreshed and ready to go :). Thanks for co-hosting this month!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I cleaned my refrigerator out a few weeks ago, and I've been eyeing it again. It's scary to think that refrigerator cleaning is easier than working on my current WIP, but I get where you've been lately because I've been there, too.
    Writer's block is tough.
Maybe, we can both write a sentence before cleaning the fridge again. :) And, then, maybe that sentence will take off and we'll both forget about fridges and lawns for a week or so. :)
    Best wishes on happy writing.

  20. OK, this is a keeper. Laughter usually loosens up whatever writers block I get--this will do it. Good luck vanquishing it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Loved all your writer's block memes. Thank you for co hosting. I'm not cleaning my house so much. But I have taken a job that I might be better off without that gives me the perfect excuse not to write that much. Sometimes I feel I've sold out - that spurs me on to burn the midnight oil.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The cat video one was my favorite! Lol. Soon your creative juices will be flowing again and nothing will stop you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Aw, you added fun to my day with these delightful graphics. I especially loved the last one--UH--maybe cause my funeral director dad sold monuments. I bet you have the cleanest house in the neighborhood! At least, you are accomplishing something worthwhile instead of sitting on the couch eating bon bons and crying because of writer's block. Don't be anxious. Relax. Ideas will be coming your way! Thanks for co-hosting.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sometimes we need a break, and sometimes we think we need a break. Currently, my brain thinks it needs a break, but I'm sure it doesn't. It just likes to make excesses. Love the cartoons. They are so true.
PS - Thanks for cohosting this month.

  25. Do I know where my writing is? Sure do...somewhere buried inside my head, locked there with no way out! Guess it's been going around, huh? Cleaning the house will definitely get the energy moving. Sing while you're cleaning. Helps me, sometimes. Granted, the fam would rather I didn't. lol

    ReplyDelete
  26. I've never had writer's block in my life, but I've had plenty of laziness and just feeling like doing other things.

  27. Congratulations to Lisa. Cool cover. I like the productivity, Heather:) I scrub the shower when I have writers block. My muse is allergic to housework anyway, the cow:) Its awesome co-hosting with you.

  28. I hate writer's block. But you're right, sometimes the brain needs the break. Enjoy the clean house and laundry. Hopefully, it doesn't last. :)

    Thanks for co-hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I wouldn't have survived the first cartoon had I said something like that to my wife. :)

I've never had writer's block. I write too slowly, leaving me far too much time to think about what I can write about. Thanks for co-hosting this month's IWSG.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lol! It is amazing how much work gets done during writer's block. Hopefully, yours doesn't hold on long and the dishes and laundry start piling up again.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I've had writer's block on certain stories, but never total writer's block. Better find some wood to knock on, eh? Hopefully yours won't last long.

    Thanks for cohosting.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My house gets very clean when I have writer's block too! It makes up for the times I'm writing like mad. Thanks for co-hosting this month! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I hope you get past the writer's block fast, and that your house is quickly dirtied. Or is that last part the wrong thing to hope for?

    Thanks for co-hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh dear, I hope you get past the writer's block quickly. Hopefully you can brainstorm with a friend. Thanks for co-hosting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lol. This has so been me lately! Only instead of mowing the lawn, it's been bread baking. And pizza making. :-D But, nose back to the grindstone! I promise!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks for the comic relief and for co-hosting. As I say far too often, it's funny because it's true.
Congrats to Lisa on her release. The whole series sounds like my kind of read.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I know . . . imagine the writer's block as a block of ice. Lo and behold, it melts away and you are writing again! Thanks for co-hosting this month.

    ReplyDelete
  38. For me, it's not so much writer's block as it is trying to manage everything I do, including article writing. It's a constant struggle, in various ways, for all of us.

  39. I don't usually get writer's block, though I did writing the sequel in my series since I had more pressure. I found hiding my word count and just writing each day until I felt "done" whether that was one page or many pages, worked really well. Good luck!

  40. Hi Heather - yes the decision not to do what perhaps one should do - opens doors to other worlds ... and the dust bunnies, and long grass get dealt with ...

Wonderful post - full of fun .. and encouragement to keep going after that brain break .. cheers Hilary

  41. During those mental down times, our brain is still working to come up with ideas and solutions. And it usually does.
At least your house is clean!

    ReplyDelete
  42. By the time writer's block has taken its toll, the writer is ready and raring to go again. The Warrior Prophet sounds like an exciting read.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i wish I were that productive when my brain needs a break! It is so painful when the words won't flow. Hoping your brain has relaxed, and you are back in the word waterfall soon.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Not being able to write, for any reason, is flippin' awful. Hope this doesn't last long for you and that once you're back writing, the break will indeed have done you good.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Been there! Keep cleaning and cutting the lawn so when the block releases you can focus on writing and not have to worry about cobwebs or what they neighbours think of your lawn.
    Tweeted.

  46. I love the premise to your book. I like stories about angels and all that but there are a lot of similar stuff with different world set up out there, but yours sounds totally different and deep. I grabbed all three books looking forward to reading them.

I hope you work your way through your writer's block like a bulldozer and keep on typing.

    Thanks for co-hosting this month.

  48. While writing the Guardian's Wildchild, I eventually figured out the characters stopped talking to me when I had ignored them and let my ego take over. I'd go back to the paragraph (maybe even a chapter) to when I know I'd started to consciously direct the plot, dialogue, etc. and delete. Yep, delete. Then the inspiration flowed smoothly. Worked for me, but then, perhaps I'm just an odd sort of writer, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think my husband would appreciate if I cleaned better when I had writer's block. LOL Instead I surf the web and complain about not being able to write so I'm equally unproductive on all fronts. At least I'm consistent. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Loving the writer's block comics! Mind if I use them on Facebook?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sorry to hear about your writers' block, Heather. Did you ever get past it?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ha, cute pics. Sometimes with writers block I need a break, and other times I just need to quit procrastinating :) Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hello, Heather. I agree--sometimes the brain needs a break. I've been away from my computer while visiting family for ten days, and now I'm raring (roaring?) to go back to work. Your book premise sounds very interesting.

  55. Lol, I’m right there with you. But in my case I’ve been binge reading contemporary and historical romances and fantasy stories on Wattpad and on my Kindle reading app. Yet, whether it’s cleaning or in my case reading, your story is still being written but just in your subconscious. So I guess, instead of calling it writer’s block, you’re using cleaning as a barrier to hold back your imagination, creative spurts, new ideas for your story to later supply and fuel your story when your ready to tackle it again. It’s not writer’s block but a writer’s dam! Thanks for co-hosting this month!

Thank you for the laughs, Heather!
Thank you for co-hosting the IWSG this month.
Now I need to get on with the cleaning and laundry...maybe those activities will stir the creative juices...get some words flowing...
