Speaking of Evil....someone mentioned fried chicken yesterday and now that is all I can think about.
Mmmmm....fried chicken.
Of course they were talking about making 'real' fried chicken, you know, prepare it and cook it themselves not cheat and purchase it.
They mentioned soaking in buttermilk and dipping in flour and frying in hot oil deliciousness.
Damn, got drool on my keyboard.
Although fried chicken may actually be my favorite food in the whole wide world, you know after chocolate, there are all kinds of wonderful fried foods out there.
Savory and sweet!
Pickles - I'm not usually a fan but fry those little suckers and they are scrumptious.
Oreos - We tried them a few years back. Ugh. Arteries hardened on the spot.
Shrimp - You can't go wrong with fried shrimp.
Dough - Fried dough with powdered sugar! Awesomesauce!
Wings/Fries/Rings - Always a good side...hell, they make a good entree!
Donuts/Fritters - Come on! Warm fried desserts? Best ever!
Cheese - I'm dying now.
Hushpuppies - FTW!!!
And just think how many foods I didn't name!
I hear you can fry corn right on the cob! You can fry butter! (Why, I don't know)
AND...I heard that somewhere, out there in the big beautiful world, someone fries bacon!
I better stop before my whole audience leaves to go fry something.
I'd like to try fried Twinkies and fried Snickers bars. There's some places around the country that actually serve them, it's just tracking them down. Then again, I could try deep-frying them myself...
ReplyDeleteI have yet to try fried pickles, but there is one restaurant near my workplace that serves them. At some point I'll get over there.
I had fried shrimp, fried oysters and fried calamari on Tuesday. So good!
Yeah, you really can never go wrong with frying stuff. :)
Funny,fortunate,fatigued,faithful,friable.
ReplyDeleteI tried a fried Oreo a few years back too. Meh.
ReplyDeleteI hear there's a fried Twinkie too. Good heavens like we Americans aren't fat enough. LOL
I am not a fan of fried foods, but did you say oreos? Do people actually fry oreos? Why?
ReplyDeleteLiz P - friend Twinkies I have heard of but never tried. Fried Snickers? That's a new one to me. Around here one would have to wait for a County Fair to try most of these crazy delicacies.
ReplyDeleteSuz - Friable? Hmmm. What about Suzanne's Creations?
Jennifer - Sad but true. And tasty!
Rhonda - I really don't know why. I've seen some crazy stuff thrown in the fryer.
I read a fried chicken post the other day too and just died of longing. I never cook it but love to eat it. I made sweet potato fries last week and they were incredible! This post has me drooling. Even my comment has me drooling. Must go eat.
ReplyDeleteFried ROCKS!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to try a fried Twinkie.
I did get the opportunity to try fried pickles; they surprised me with their greatness.
Fried burgers, chicken, fish, chicken-fried steaks, yes ma'am! :-)

ReplyDeleteLet's try this again.
ReplyDeleteI SO hate you right now.... I am on a super strict diet with NOTHING fried.
I WANT to INHALE this page. How could you do this to me, Heather? I thought you were a nice person. LOL.
I know you haven't heard of this unless you're italian, but, I must get even.
During Christmas we Italians make something called Strufoli. A special dough that is rolled into tiny balls, deep fried, and covered in honey and candied confetti. Now that is AWESOME!
very nice post, but it made my heartburn worse :)
ReplyDeleteFried food! I love the way you think!
ReplyDeleteFried pickles? Really? Sounds dreadful!
ReplyDeleteKarenG - I know! I'm dying over here! I need to fry some chicken now!
ReplyDeleteRachel - The fried Twinkies do sound intriguing. I might have to make that a quest this summer.
Michael - I'm SO sorry! I was being selfish when I wrote about this, I admit. We could talk about zucchini (unfried) next if you want?
I grew up surrounded by Italians. The kind that make their own wine in the garage, Italians. I have had that dessert, but wasn't sure what it was called. It is to die for!
StandardSpicyWhatnot - Great name! Sorry about the heartburn. Do you need a purple pill?
Murees - Ha! Funny, my teachers never did like the way I thought!
Anne - One might think so but they are really tasty. Had them at Hooters for the first time. The batter/coating they use is delicious.
Thanks for coming to read my rants everyone!
I am so craving fried chicken now! I haven't had really good fried chicken in years. It's the ultimate in comfort food.
ReplyDeleteEvery healthy post needs a sister like this. :) Fried oreos are heaven, but I'm nauseous after the first bite (don't worry, I finish them. No stomach pains will stop that. No way!). I've never tried fried pickles, but breaded and friend cauliflower...
ReplyDeleteAh, crap. Now there's drool on my keyboard too.
Thanks for sharing!
Marie at the Cheetah
Ooh.. nothing is as good as my mother's fried chicken. That is serious comfort food!
ReplyDeleteMy brother was watching some cable show about a state fair and the big food item that year was...are you ready?...deep fried butter! Can you imagine?
ReplyDeleteFried dough is my absolute favorite. When we were kids, we tried to make fried dough minus the yeast of course, cause we had no clue what we were doing, lol. And yes, we doused it with sugar and ate it anyways. Fried flour!
ReplyDeleteAnd I forgot one-fried fruit loops. and fried bologna.
ReplyDeleteJennifer - I agree. Great comfort food. Thanks for stopping in.
ReplyDeleteMarie - I feel like such a slouch writing about fried food and you wrote about all that healthy stuff! Fried cauliflower? Hmmm. I've had fried mushrooms...does that count?
India - Isn't that the best thought? Home cooking? Sometimes a food smell will set off such a memory! Thanks for coming today.
Nicki - I know! It's crazy. Who thinks of this stuff? I know they can fry ice cream too!
ReplyDeleteDonna - Fried flour! That is so funny. At least it was edible! Fruit loops? I don't know about that one.
Thanks for the visits!
My late 20s dream was to open a beer pub called "The Clogged Artery".
ReplyDeleteServing nothing but beer and food that could be made in a fry-o-lator.
Plain old Deep Fried bacon was my favorite evil indulgence food till I discovered Chocolate covered bacon in Vegas last year. Most diners deep fry bacon if you ask for it well done.
Also you haven't really lived till you've had Fried Banana with raspberry glaze from a good Thai restaurant.
Fried Shrimp *drool*
