I is for If... - A to Z Challenge

If.

Small word. Big possibilities.

If I could get my foot in the door...I could show them that I'm worth taking a chance on.

If I could get my book read by someone other than family and friends...I know people would like it.

If I could find that one person to believe in me...I would type my fingertips to the bone to make my work shine for them.

If I could get my book started on its way to being published...I would feel vindicated.

If I could finally answer the question "What do you do for a living?" with the words I'm an author...I would have a sense of purpose.

If my work saw the light of day...I could finally sit down at my computer like a writer instead of like an unemployed loser.

If.

  1. It's taken me a while to proudly announce that I am a writer. It feels a bit like a cheat because I've nothing published. At all.
But now on linked.in Ive listed my profession as a writer. And it makes me feel good. 'Cause it doesn't matter if I get paid for it or not, I can't help being a writer.
So chin up, you are what you say you are.

  7. Andrea - Awesome. You are right. I don't need to be paid for something to be able to do it.

Tara - Thanks. I'm of the same opinion. Just frustrated.

    M.J. - Thank you. I know I'm not alone.

Joanne - Sorry, didn't mean to make you sad! The power of positive thinking, right?

Ann - It haunts, that's for sure. Knowing others feel the same way helps.

    K. - Thank you. I'm trying to will it into existence.

Thanks everyone for stopping in. See you for the Letter J!

  10. Your post is so honest and so touching. I completely understand your "if" sentiments. I do call myself a writer now, but it has taken me a really long time. And still, I often feel the sentiments you've expressed. I hope you find your way to publication soon.
