Labor sucks

Hello everyone.

Happy Monday.

Happy Labor Day? Dumb holiday.

Do you know how many people are still working today? Lots. I don't get it.

The other labor day sucks too. I was in labor for two days and then had a c-section. Dumb.

Speaking of evil children...mine goes back to school tomorrow!!! YEAH!!! First grade!!! YEAH!!!

I'm hoping this will be the beginning of a beautiful relationship with my current works in progress.

I just read about yet another of my blogging buddies getting published (congrats Renee Silvana!) and I am sick and tired of wishing it was me.

Dammit! It's going to be me.

I need to treat writing more like a job instead of a hobby.

I need to write for a few hours a day.

I need to find my muse and smack them around a bit.

I need to stop being afraid of failure.

I need to stop feeling sorry myself and start acting like a writer if I ever want to be an author.

Did you get any of that? Does any of that make sense?

Maybe I should have saved this for September 7th and the Insecure Writer's Support Group post.

Damn.

  1. I bet you'll come up with something good for that day anyway!
Never could figure out why those who labor have to work today. Seems cruel.
Get excited about tomorrow and no kids!

  4. Oh, no, don't send my sweet, adorable, funny, cute grandson back to school. Sob!
Not his fault you got tired of listening to MaMa 29 hours a day. You should have had me sit for him several times a week so you could go write the Great American Romance.
Have some compassion, you who were not so fond of school yourself.

  5. Your reaction is understandable. It kind of feels like a kick to the gut hah? I can totally relate. So if slapping your muse around helps, let me know. Mine can do with a few slaps too.

  6. Ah, but one day it will be you. And it will happen in an instant. You'll submit and you'll wait, and you'll wait some more, and then you'll get The Call. Think positive, keep going and good luck!

  8. Can you find my muse and smack her around a bit, too? I think she needs a drop kick or a piledriver and my threats are ineffectual. *sigh* ;-)

Hope your little one has a great day! My youngest will be in preschool next year. Woohoo!

    P.S. Congrats on the 200 followers. ;-)

  9. I've always been pretty lucky with having Labor Day off, but since I'm not exactly a BBQ kinda person, it was just a great opportunity to walk into my block party, say hello and grab some free desserts. Friendly conversation too I guess.

Thanks for the congrats. And for sticking it out with me for so long, back when I had 3 blog followers! (You, Ju and Murees.)

    Thanks for stopping in!

Renee - Love BBQ, hate neighbors. You are so welcome and I'm very happy for you. I hope my rant didn't come across any other way!

    Jeff - Sorry! And..Thank you!

  12. First time stopping by, sometimes changing the phrase from 'I need' to 'I want' puts it more in your control. It's a cognitive restructuring technique.

I recently read a short memoir type thing by Ann Patchett in which she suggested if anyone wants to write and they are not getting it done they need to make a log of how many hours they spend each day writing. She suggests starting with committing yourself to one hour each day.

So far I think I've consistently done 30 min. on my current project which is far from impressive but more than I have been doing. Good luck.

  13. I totally get everything you've said in this post, and I know that with your determination, it's just a matter of time before we see your work in print. And try not to be too hard on yourself (I know, easier said than done, and I'm not one to talk). We believe in you!

  14. Nancy - Welcome and thanks for the advice. I know that I open my work but don't always type and that certainly is a problem.
    Thanks for coming by!

Jennifer - THANK YOU! That really rocks coming from you. I appreciate it!

    Thanks everyone!
