The Insecure Writer’s Support Group
Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
Alex's awesome co-hosts for the January will be L.G. Keltner, Denise Covey, Sheri Larsen, J.Q. Rose, Chemist Ken, and Michelle Wallace!

2016? That sounds like the future, doesn't it?
I really thought I'd be further along in my writing adventure by now. But, I'm doing okay. Slow and steady, right?
I also know, if I set down rules or goals for myself, that I immediately do the opposite of that. I'm not fond of authority, especially when it comes from me. :)
So, let's call them 'guidelines'. Things I'd like to get accomplished this year, but it's not a requirement.
I have completed a short story that will be included in an anthology that comes out in mid-2016 with a plethora of other really talented authors! Check it out HERE.
And, I'm about 1/3 into book 3 in my series. It's taking longer than I thought, but honestly, it always does.
If I can get through bk.3 and start editing by mid-year, I might finally get back to editing my original story. The one that I actually started this blog for. Setting the Record Straight. I would love to fix all the broken stuff and get that back out to the world.
There we have it! Not too lofty, right?
Let's get started!
What are you doing this year?
Don't forget! Today is the big announcement for the anthology winners on the Insecure Writer's Support Group site! Congratulations to everyone who entered and to those who won!!
Congratulations on all you've accomplished so far! Slow and steady works just fine. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you, L.G.! I appreciate that.

Guidelines sound better.
ReplyDeleteKeep working at that third book and don't let the relaunch of the X-Files distract you. (Not too much, anyway!)
Doesn't it?
DeleteThe X-Files is going to blow all my plans out of the water.

I don't do well with authority, either. Maybe that's why I have such a hard time with goals I set for myself. Not even I can tell myself what to do? I didn't even think of that!
ReplyDeleteI'd say you're going great with your writing. It always does take longer than we think it will, but you keep going and working at it, and that's what counts.
I'm telling you, every time I give myself an order, I do everything I can to not do it.
DeleteThank you, M.J.

Good luck with your goals! I shared this on another post. One idea is to set deadlines by holidays. By Valentine's Day, I'll have my second pass done. By St. Patrick's Day I'll send to readers. I really like this idea since holidays are easy to remember and there are lots of them.
ReplyDeleteI really like the holiday idea. Since we make all our plans around holidays, it makes sense.
DeleteThank you!
Heather
Sounds like a very realistic set of goals for the new year. Go kiss 2016's butt.
ReplyDeleteI will give it a try anyway!

ReplyDeleteWe've got to start somewhere!

If I'm lucky, I'll finish the first draft of one novel and revise a novella into working order. But I didn't list those as my goals because I don't know if I can really accomplish them. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe will do the best we can!

Good luck for the year for you Heather, I am in the process of finishing my fourth book myself.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Thank you!
Delete4th book! Awesome! Best of luck!

I hope you finish book 3 and get back to that first one.
ReplyDeleteI can handle my own authority, but with as many goals as I set and projects I tackle, my husband says I am my own worst enemy.
You are a powerhouse! No doubt about it!

Congrats on the anthology. If resolutions/goals don't work for you, do what does--like guidelines. Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! Thank you for also sharing your goals. I hoping to get my manuscript done and polished up this year so I can start the next one. :)
ReplyDeleteGuidelines and goals sound more achievable than resolutions and slow and steady gets it done. What works for you is all that matters. Congratulations on your short story. I will pop over and check it out. Happy New Year. Wishing you the best in 2016, and it does sound like the future. My kids get a big kick out of how my generation used to sing that song, "We're Gonna Party Like Its 1999. Lol. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting into the anthology! That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteThis year, I'm focusing on rewriting. I have so many novels that really need to get out into the world.
All the best in 2016!
Slow and steady, nothing wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Guidelines feel easier to work with than goals.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything.
