Everything, Nothing & Stuff In-between -
Random stuff from my brain
I was so proud when I finished my third book. Mostly because I didn't think that would ever happen. I struggled and struggled with the ending.
Now it's time to dig deep and edit. I sent it out to my two 'editors' and I have it back from one. The problem? As soon as I start working on the pages, I almost slip into a sleep coma.
It's really kind of sad. I have work to do. I can't be yawning or sleeping instead of actually editing.
Even the coffee isn't helping.
I might have to find something stronger.
Ever find yourself nodding off instead of working?
It's almost Friday!
I get the whole exhausted from writing book thing. My theme this year is Anything writer(ly). I will probably write a post on how much work it takes to edit my YA Novel, including editing on scribophile, countless real life writing/editing groups, taping and listening to my writing, etc. check out my Writer(l) #AtoZchallenge at theglobaldig.blogspot.com @trincarl
ReplyDeleteDuring my college days i remember the post lunch lectures when it took herculean efforts to fall ( i mean literally from my seat) asleep

I've placed my face on the home keys more than a few times. It's tough - I could drink a diet Mountain Dew and do 37 jumping jacks, and be asleep on my keyboard before the screensaver can activate.
ReplyDeleteMy best advice: Sleep. Get lots of good sleep, warm socks, a good breakfast, then caffeine, and a dose of resolve. And not too comfortable a seat!
Good luck.

Yes! So many times! Especially in the afternoons! I would love a built-in nap time! I think sometimes we put too much on ourselves, and just feel utterly exhausted by everything that is on the list to accomplish! Great post! :)

O no, not good when even coffee fails you.

Finding that motivation again is so difficult! It's nice to be able to give yourself a short break in between drafts, if you can. Otherwise, making editing synonymous with a 'treat' seems to work for me: bringing my work-in-progress and editor notes to my favorite coffee shop and doing edits over a latte makes the work so much more palatable! Best of luck to you!

I think that falling asleep syndrome is inherited. You get it from the cat side of your family.
ReplyDeleteI like the "not too comfortable chair" suggestion.
All the time. I can be into a story, but something about sitting and doing nothing triggers my brain to think 'it's time to sleep'. ><
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Give yourself a little treat, take a break and then try again.

Hi Heather - thanks for all you're doing with the A-Z ... and yes if I start reading I almost certainly fall asleep - I so often want to nod off ...
ReplyDeleteCheers and all the best - Hilary
Surely you can get Stormy to poke you with a pointy stick, Heather??? I think he might enjoy it! On a more serious note, I think it is so much harder doing things for yourself rather than other people so that's why you can feel so tired - it all has to come from you and that's NOT easy. Break it down into more manageable chunks and give yourself some time off too :) Special Teaching at Pempi’s Palace
ReplyDeleteI have this problem when I pray LOL I'm such a bad Catholic!

Yes! I've fallen asleep at the computer too many times to count. Good luck with your edits! Maybe you need a bit of a break first, especially with the Challenge going on.
